One seaman died on a South Korean flagged vessel after it sinks in Taiwan.
The ship KELSEY 2, a chemical / oil products tanker, was en route from Hong Kong to the port of Gunsan, Korea, sailing at a speed of 7.1 knots, when it started to make water in the evening of October 14. The vessel crew reported water ingress in the aft section area and the engine room. Unfortunately, the tanker sank on the morning of October 15, 25 nautical miles south of Wuqui island, Kinmen County, Taiwan, Taiwan Strait. Both Taiwan and China sent helicopters to rescue. Of 20 crew on board, one died, and 19 were rescued. Tanker with GT of 5,328 was considered to be in loaded condition, carrying a cargo of oil and chemicals.
Vessel KELSEY 2 (IMO: 9254214, MMSI 440128000) is a Chemical/Oil Products Tanker built in 2002 (20 years old) and currently sailing under the flag of Korea.
