NATO-Schiffe vereiteln Piratenattacken:
SOMALI-based pirates are continuing to attack merchant ships in the Gulf of Aden. The latest weekly report from the
ICC International Maritime Bureau (IMB) that, in addition the hijacking last week of the the 82,849 dwt Marshall
Islands flag, Turkish-owned and crewed bulk carrier Yasa Neslihan, there were at least three However it appears
that NATO warships in the area contributed to the failure of these attempted hijackings. In one case an aircraft
apparently used weapons of some sort against a pirate gang.
The IMB describes three attacks that took place last Tuesday in the Gulf of Aden. In each case the attackers fired at
the ships, in one case for over five minutes, putting ships and crew at high risk. In each case the pirates came close to
succeeding. In two cases the intervention of military forces in the area played a role in foiling the attacks.
One of these incidents took place at 1500 LT in position 12:54N – 046:40E. The IMB says that 12 pirates in three fast
attack boats were noticed departing from a white coloured fishing vessel – apparently the pirate mother vessel. The
master took evasive manoeuvres, activated SSAS, sent mayday messages and the crew mustered in a safe
compartment.
For five minutes, says the IMB, the pirates aggressively fired towards the accommodation of the tanker and attempted
to board. A coalition warship responded to the mayday messages and sent an aircraft to the scene. The master
maintained the evasive manoeuvres. The pirates briefly stopped the attack to re-group and then attacked again. The
aircraft made a very low pass over the pirates and then “dropped some ordinance on them”. The attempted attack was
aborted and the situation became safe. After 20 minutes, a French helicopter arrived to check the situation and master
informed it of the pirate mother vessel's location. Source : Maritime Global Net

Ohje, eine schwierige und eigentlich müßige Diskussion - wieviele Fliegen können irren? Soll sie ja kaufen, wer will, aber dass sie Garant für seriöse Informationen ist, wird wohl kaum jemand ernsthaft behaupten wollen.
