Re: MAERSK PLÄNE!!!!!!
TWO of the world’s largest shipyards, Hyundai Heavy Industries and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, have confirmed that they are in discussions with Maersk over massive orders totalling about $3.5bn for 34 new boxships, writes Keith Wallis in Hong Kong.
A senior Hyundai Heavy executive said Maersk’s order for 18 4,500 teu ships will be placed with Hyundai Samho. The deal will be Hyundai Samho’s biggest order to date in both number and price for 4,500 teu boxships. The total deal is thought to be worth about $1.6bn.
Daewoo Shipbuilding, meanwhile, will construct 16 7,500 teu ships for about $1.9bn.
The shipbuilders said the contracts are likely to be confirmed by the end of this month.
A senior Hyundai Heavy executive said the final price will depend on the ships’ technical specification, currently being negotiated with Maersk.
He pointed out that the ships did not feature any special design features that should increase their cost.
The executive said that “due to the large number of ships, physical construction could be split between Hyundai Samho and Hyundai Heavy to meet the delivery schedule”. All the ships are due for delivery in 2011 and 2012. He was not aware how Maersk would pay for the vessels.
Plans for the massive Maersk order came as China Shipping Container Lines (HK) placed contracts totalling $559.8m last week with Chinese shipyard Shanghai Jiangnan Changxing Heavy Industry for eight 4,250 teu boxships.
The vessels were part of a newbuilding package for 16 containerships CSCL planned to order, with the other eight coming from Asian yards.
The eight 4,250 teu ships will be delivered in 2011 and 2012 and will replace vessels on charter from Seaspan when these charters end in 2015.

Moin!
@ Der Johann: Danke für diese interessanten Informationen.
Ich mach mal eine Zwischensumme:
Schiffahrtskonzern (Werft)---Anzahl Schiffe---TEU pro Schiff---TEU total---Auftragswert in Mio. Dollar
______________________________________________________________________________________
UASC (Hyundai)----------------8-------------------7.000--------------56.000--------850
Maersk (Hyundai)------------18-------------------4.500--------------81.000------1.600
Maersk (Daewoo)-------------16-------------------7.500-----------120.000-------1.900
CSCL (Shanghai Shipyard)----8-------------------4.250------------34.000----------560
_____________________________________________________________________

Volkswerft celebrates 60 years with newbuild pai
GERMAN Chancellor Angela Merkel (fourth from right) named the 2,500 teu Safmarine Nakuru at Volkswerft Stralsund on Saturday as the yard celebrated its 60th anniversary, writes Katrin Berkenkopf in Cologne.
Volkswerft had scheduled a double naming ceremony for the day, with Berlinda Oduro-Owusu, daughter to the managing director of Ghana Cocoa, naming the second newbuilding for Safmarine.
The line has already received three similar ships from Stralsund earlier this year. Both new vessels will be deployed on the trades between West Africa and Europe.
The shipyard was set up in 1948. In 1994, Ms Merkel, then a minister in the German government, laid the headstone for the refurbished Volkswerft after German reunification.
Last year, Volkswerft was sold by AP Moller-Maersk to Germany’s Hegemann group, which also owns shipbuilders Peene-Werft and Rolandwerft. The Stralsund facility has 13 more boxships of 2,500 teu and six anchor-handling tugs in its orderbook. Further contracts are under negotiation, the yard said.

STX in $110m bid for Aker
SOUTH Korea’s STX Shipbuilding made a surprise bid of up to $110m on Friday to buy more of Norwegian shipbuilder Aker Yards.
In a statement issued after the close of the Oslo bourse, STX said it “intends to launch a mandatory offer for all shares outstanding in Aker Yards”.
STX offered NKr63 ($18) per share for up to 7.9% of the shares in Aker Yards, which would raise its stake to 47.2% of the group. This would trigger a buyout of minority owners, its brokers, ABG Sundal Collier, said in a statement to the Norwegian stock exchange.
The offer is worth between NKr126m and NKr567m ($24.3m-$109.5m).
Already the biggest Aker Yards shareholder, with a 39.2% stake, STX offered to buy at least 2m shares, or 1.8% of the stock, and up to 9m shares, said ABG Sundal Collier. “The order to buy shares is in effect immediately,” said the broker’s statement.
“The price per share is 63 Norwegian crowns, representing 11.5% premium to the closing price for the Aker Yards ASA share today of 56.50 crowns”.
If STX’s offer succeeds, the company will launch a mandatory buyout offer for the rest of Aker Yards’ shares, ABG said. Under Norwegian law, buying a stake of more than 40% triggers a mandatory bid for the rest.
STX would compensate shareholders if it buys, or offers to buy, additional shares at a price higher than 63 crowns during the offer period, ABG said. ABG said it would buy shares for its client for as long as offers are received for the minimum amount of stock. It said the offer could be closed at any time.
STX became the biggest shareholder in Aker Yards last year to get a foothold in the cruiseship business now dominated by European shipbuilders.

LEHMANN TIMBER von Versorgung abgeschnitten
m/v Lehmann Timber – vessel cutted off energy and communications
Saturady June 21nd was the last day we could call m/v Lehmann Timber, from 00 a.m. June 22 vessel had to be cutted off all energy, because they’re left with emergency 5 mt of diesel oil, required for starting main engine. I’ve had talks with Master (Valentin Barkashev) and Chief Officer (Estonia citizen), also with pirates’ representative, a person which called himself Mohammed Ali. Another hijacked vessel, m/v Amia Scan is anchored 2 miles off m/v Lehmann Timber, but regime on board of m/v Amia Scan looks to be much more tight, they were permitted to VHF talk with each other only once or twice in two-weeks time.
Pirates disagreed on what to do – shipowner told pirates and crew, he won’t be able to deliver ransom to the place vessel is anchored now (along Indian ocean Somali coastline), till 3 weeks later. If vessel could move to other position in Gulf of Aden, it will be much easier for shipowner to deliver money, maybe in just 1-2 days. But some of the pirates are afraid, because some local fighting began exactly in area m/v Lehmann Timber was asked to move to. Pirates afraid after they leave vessel with ransom, they may be exposed to war risk or robbery. Food supply is irregular and inadequate, and pirates prohibit crew to go out and take food provisions from safety rafts and boats. Now, with total blackout, there’s no toilet, no chance to boil water for drinking, crew is hurdled on the bridge, about 0.5-1 sq.meter per person. Pirates treat crew with growing hostility. The only State trying to help, is Estonia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs established emergency group and looking for ways to deliver money as soon as possible, maybe by Coalition Forces in region. Pirates’ representative told me on the phone they don’t mind Coalition Forces ship transferring money, providing she is not French. That’s about all by now.

Cassens Werft insolvent
GERMAN yard Cassens Werft has filed for insolvency.
The Emden-based shipbuilder blamed its predicament on the inability of German shipowner Reederei Hinsch to secure financing for the nearly-completed 700 teu newbuilding Paritas-H.
In a further blow for the yard, the funding for another newbuilding, for an affiliated shipping company, Elbdeichgruppe, is also uncertain. HVB bank has therefore recalled the yard’s loans.
Cassens Werft hopes to be able to continue work after a restructuring process. It has an orderbook worth €226m ($350m), with deliveries stretching into 2011. The yard filed for insolvency in 2003 during the last shipbuilding crisis, but then recovered.
